AMMU, Dec 17: Army and police today carried out three successful operations on the disclosures of Hizbul Mujahideen divisional commander Ghulam Nabi Sheikh alias Javaid Qureshi and his associate Tanveer Ahmed in Marmat area of Doda district and recovered a large quantity of arms, ammunition and explosive devices. Meanwhile, a Kangra police team of Himachal Pradesh today also took two arrested militants—Jameel Ahmed alias Nissar Qureshi and Ghulam Nabi to Doda town for effecting recoveries. The team, however, returned empty handed, reliable sources said. DIG Doda-Ramban range Manish Kumar Sinha said police and Army teams today conducted joint search operations at three places at Darot and Riyali forest areas of Marmat in Doda district on the disclosures of Javaid Qureshi and made a large quantity of recoveries. Recoveries made from Darot forest area included one Light Machine Gun (LMG), one Pika gun, seven RPG rockets and two RPG boosters. From another spot near Darot, 11 AK magazines, four Chinese grenades, one pistol and 10 rounds were recovered. From Riyali forests, one AK ammunition box carrying 700 rounds was seized. Mr Sinha said the pistol recovered from Darot forests had been looted by Javaid Qureshi after killing two Special Police Officers (SPOs) Reyaz Ahmed and Abdul Gani in an ambush at Marmat on September 19, 2009 when they were going to their houses on Eid holidays. Another SPO Yaqub had survived the attack. The militants from the three SPOs looted a total of three weapons—pistol, Insas rifle and a UBGL gun. Additional SP Doda Arif Mohammad Reshu led police parties in the search operations under the supervision of SSP Doda Prabhat Singh. Sources said sustained interrogation of Javaid Qureshi, who was an active militant for the last 17 years, was still on and some more recoveries and arrests were on the cards. As reported, a number of associates of Qureshi have gone underground after his arrest. Javaid Qureshi and Tanveer Ahmed were arrested by Dehradun Police in Azad Nagar area of Uttaranchal last week where they had reportedly gone to disturb passing out parade of Indian Military Academy (IMA) and were staying in a rented house. Meanwhile, a Kangra police team of Himachal Pradesh also reached Doda town along with two arrested militants of Hizbul Mujahideen identified as Jameel Ahmed alias Nissar Qureshi, a divisional commander and his associate Ghulam Nabi. The team was reportedly in search of some recoveries. It was, however, not clear as to whether Kangra police succeeded in making the recoveries or not. They returned this afternoon. Jameel and Ghulam Nabi, who also hailed from Marmat like Qureshi and Tanveer, were arrested from village Kotla in Jawali area of Dharamshala in Kangra district a day before where they were putting up impersonating as labourers.
